Gay Barcelona
Most of Barcelona's gay bars are in the Gaixample, the nickname for the blocks of the Eixample between Carrer de Balmes, the Gran Via, Carrer del Comte d'Urgell and Carrer d'Aragó. Diputació, Consell de Cent, Muntaner and Aribau hold most of the bars within a short walk of each other, along with most of the gay shops, a sauna and the Axel Hotel.
The rest of the scene is spread over a few parts of the city. The old town has bars in the Raval, Sauna Condal in the Gòtic and The Basement Club in Sant Pere. A few more places sit just below the Gran Via in Sant Antoni, among them Axel Two and the Boyberry darkroom. Safari Disco Club, where the weekly Yass Party and the Friday Bananas Party take place, is in Hostafrancs, and on the seafront the Mar Bella beach has a gay beach bar, Chiringuito BeGay.

The year in Barcelona
Four events mark the year. Matinée holds its Easter Weekend over Easter, so its month moves with the holiday. Pride Barcelona has its main days in mid-July, with the demonstration and the big concerts. Circuit Festival, also run by Matinée, fills the first part of August with parties across the city, and the Barcelona Rubber Weekend comes at the end of November. Between them, the weekly parties keep going all year.

The Gaixample
The Gaixample is the nickname for the blocks of the Eixample bounded by Carrer de Balmes, the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Carrer del Comte d'Urgell and Carrer d'Aragó. Carrer de la Diputació between Aribau and Villarroel has the most gay businesses.
Consell de Cent and Muntaner are the other streets to know. Besides the bars there are the Axel Hotel on Aribau, Sauna Casanova, the Open Mind darkroom on Aragó, the club El Cangrejo Eixample on Villarroel, and the shops Nostromo, Boxer and Addicted.

Ciutat Vella: the Raval, the Gòtic and Sant Pere
The old town has a handful of places of its own. In the Raval, near the Rambla del Raval and Carrer de la Riera Alta, there are bars and a sex shop. Sauna Condal is on Carrer d'Espolsa-sacs in the Gòtic, and The Basement Club is on Carrer de Lluís el Piadós in Sant Pere.

Sants-Montjuïc: Hostafrancs and Poble-sec
Safari Disco Club on Carrer de Tarragona, in Hostafrancs, is where several of the regular parties take place, among them the weekly Yass Party and the Bananas Party on Fridays. In Poble-sec are the bar La Federica and the darkroom Berlin Dark.

The seafront at Mar Bella
Mar Bella is a beach of about half a kilometre in the Sant Martí district, laid out when the seafront was rebuilt for the 1992 Olympics. It has a designated nudist area, and Chiringuito BeGay is on its promenade, the Passeig Marítim de la Mar Bella.

From the airport
Metro line L9 Sud stops at both terminals, but ordinary single tickets are not valid there, so you need the airport ticket or a Hola Barcelona card. The Rodalies R2 Nord train leaves from Terminal 2 and stops at Sants and Passeig de Gràcia, and the Aerobús runs from each terminal to Plaça de Catalunya.
Getting home at night
The NitBus night buses run overnight. Every line except the N0 stops at Plaça de Catalunya, which is the place to change.
The law
Same-sex couples have been able to marry in Spain since Law 13/2005 of 1 July 2005. In Catalonia, Law 11/2014 guarantees the rights of LGBTI people and sets out to eradicate homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
