Sauna Casanova

Saunas | Cruising in Barcelona, Spain

About

Sauna Casanova sits on Carrer de Casanova in Barcelona's Eixample district, right in the heart of the gay quarter. Run by Grupo Pases, one of Spain's longest-running gay sauna operators, the venue has been drawing men through its doors for years, whether they are looking to decompress after a night out or kill a few hours on a slow afternoon.
The place was refurbished in 2017. Facilities include a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, open showers, private cabins and a bar. Towels and lockers come with entry. It is open around the clock, every day of the year, so the door is never locked.
The crowd is a mix of locals and tourists, and the vibe sits closer to party than spa. Weekday evenings run quieter. Friday and Saturday nights build momentum after midnight, once the surrounding Eixample bars begin to empty out. On busy weekends, Casanova effectively becomes the after-party.
Urgell and Universitat metro stations are both a short walk away, and several of Barcelona's best-known gay bars are just minutes from the front door.

I ended up visiting here on my birthday, and had a very carnal, sexy, wild time upstairs. Had lots of hot guys and places to sneak away. For that, I give the upstairs and cruising area five stars!

HOWEVER, the wet area does not match their standards elsewhere. I have never been in such a cold and uncomfortable whirlpool! I know gispacho is a thing (cold soup), but whirlpools are meant to be inviting, relaxing and WARM. No amount of imagination from management can excuse either this or the steam room, which ABSOLUTELY REEKS of mold in a way which prohibits anyone from stepping foot in the steam room to cruise and **** ! Visually, the sauna area is stunning in design and lighting. But the experience therein is uninviting and dangerous. I don't say this to be mean or critical, but because everything else about the place I really enjoyed and appreciated.

I think guests will be much happier and stay longer when they feel comfortable cruising in the steam areas again.

Thank you for hosting my cumpleanos! xx

I have visited sauna Casanova several times over the last 30 years and I can attest that it has been like it is since then.

It is actually very clean and they have attendants doing a great job.
The place is mildly run down, but it s part of it s image.

A few cockroaches seen. I wont criticize because it might be a problem endemic to Barcelona. If you are squimish, be aware.

One thing is absolutely not acceptable and that is why I give 3 stars: out of the six showers in the locker room, I think only one was working properly. There was a similar problem in sauna Condal.

Also, be aware that drug use, especially on the weekend, is rampant. So if this is not your cup of tea, don t go. But if you don t mind or are a user yourself, every Saturday and Sunday morning from 5 am on, the place is packed with willing and excited young spaniards and travellers.

Another mildly annoying thing. And again, same issue with sauna Condal: the reception staff does not speak english. For a business that receives a lot of tourists, it would be a nice touch.

Expensive, cock roaches, areas under renovation (this was not mentioned on arrival) cold sauna and steam room on upper levels. No maze area and very quiet at 0200hrs on Thursday night Friday morning. Overall disappointing. We expected better from Barcelona no. 1 sauna. We wont be rushing back. Unfortunately.

I’m writing this because I really want this place to improve. Renovations and upgrades have been promised for months, even years. I understand that additional space is being created, but the main issue is the condition of the common areas. They are simply not up to standard.

We live in Barcelona, one of the best gay cities in the world, and it is honestly embarrassing that the sauna does not reflect that. Friends visiting me have seen cockroaches everywhere, and I even stepped on one myself. Cleanliness is clearly a recurring issue, as many reviews mention the same problems.

Please focus on raising hygiene and overall standards. Barcelona deserves a sauna people are proud to visit. Until things significantly improve, I will not be returning.

Was there last night and didn’t like at all, the lockers were very confusing, was a bit cold in the common areas and needs some maintenance, the jacuzzi was cold too and a very young clientele, not to our liking! It’s very to expensive for what they offer
