Axel Two Barcelona

Hotels in Barcelona, Spain

About

Axel TWO Barcelona is the second Axel Hotels property in the city, located on Calàbria in the southern part of the Eixample, still within the Gayxample but with a distinct character from the original. The hotel has a rooftop pool and a boutique feel, with a slower, more relaxed atmosphere than the flagship on Aribau. It is designed for guests who want to connect at a quieter pace while still being at the centre of Barcelona's LGBTQIA+ social geography. Adults only. The hotel sits within easy reach of the bars and clubs of the main Gayxample strip and is a short metro or walk from the city's key sights.

The TWO by Axel is a great hotel made for everyone in need of a comfortable room with contemporary design at a good location.
I liked the way of design and communication with the guests.
Amazing friendliness and attention from the staff.
The entire property is kept very well and clean.
The breakfast buffet is not a highlight, but you have lots of alternatives in the neighborhood and St.Antoni market hall is also in walking distance.
Just few steps from the nearest metro station, so easy access to everywhere in town and to the airport.

Located in a very good area of the city, easy access to public transportation, and to airport links. They have a reception attendance for check ins and check outs - very clean and stylish rooms. Gym and pool on the roof. Silent sleeping conditions considering the room that faces the street. Walking distance to a lot of places. Recommended

Overall, this is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Really high quality and have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The room is spacious and modern with one of the biggest and comfiest beds I’ve ever slept on in a hotel. The breakfast was high quality with plenty of choice and even free cava!

Only criticism I have and why I wouldn’t rate it 5/5 is the timing of breakfast on weekends is too late, it’s a bit lazy to start breakfast at 08:00 on weekends when it’s 07:00 every other day. We had an early bus to Andorra and thought we could grab some breakfast before heading to the bus station but were disappointed to find out it didn’t start until 08:00. People have early flights or have to be places, there’s no reason why breakfast should start later on the weekend

(Our stay was at the end of Sept)
My partner & I had a wonderful stay here. We had a premium room with included breakfast and for 4 nights this was the perfect size.
The service was always great from check-in to daily breakfast and then check-out.
Location was awesome. Felt really safe for 2 ladies. The metro was just 50m down the road, a really good supermarket with everything you need around the corner. Heaps of restaurants in the area, all within walking distance and the gay district also only a short 10min walk away.
The rooftop bar wasn't open as it was off-season but if you want a drink you can get from the ground floor.
The pool was good enough for a dip but is a bit worse for wear could do with a reno. Still good to have privacy though.
Overall, will absolutely stay again

When booking, I initially thought the price was a bit high compared to other nearby hotels, but it was fairly comparable. With so many options in the area, I chose this one because of the chain’s commitment to inclusivity and the fact that it's adults only. I also appreciated some of the quirky touches like the "Please Disturb" door sign.

This hotel isn’t located right in the middle of the gay area like the other one - it’s a short walk or metro ride away, which might actually be a plus for those looking for a quieter stay.

The hotel honoured my request for a quiet room away from the elevator, and I didn’t experience any noise at all. My room faced the public park and I didn't hear any noise from it or the neighbouring rooms.

I’m glad I paid a bit extra for a "premium" room as I wouldn’t have wanted to stay on the ground floor or in the basement. The room itself was comfortable, especially the bed and the rain shower, though it’s beginning to show its age. The air conditioning seemed to struggle even when it was only 26°C outside. I noticed other reviews mention the same issue, so perhaps the system could use an upgrade - the control panel looked very old.

A couple of amenities were slightly disappointing: the rooftop bar only opens during peak season (but the rooftop itself is still open and you can get drinks from the ground floor bar) and the pool was very cold - though that might have been due to the lack of sun, so perhaps just a matter of preference.

Finally, I noticed an incorrect minibar charge on my card statement after checking out. Fortunately, the hotel refunded it as soon as I emailed them, which I really appreciated.
