Candy Darling

Bars in Barcelona, Spain

About

Candy Darling takes its name from the transgender actress and Andy Warhol muse who became a countercultural icon in 1960s and 70s New York. It is a fitting tribute. Since opening in September 2019, this indie queer bar on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes has carved out a reputation as one of the most distinctive LGBTQ+ spaces in Barcelona, deliberately positioning itself apart from the predominantly masculine energy of the nearby Gayxample.
The bar announces itself without fanfare. There is no flashy signage, only a discreet pink triangle at the entrance — a quiet nod to the clandestine gathering places of the past. Inside, a narrow white corridor opens out into a surprisingly spacious interior where queer art covers the walls, sofas offer space to settle in, and a stage stands ready for whatever the evening brings. The Wild Room adds a pocket-sized dance floor for those who want to move.
The programming is where Candy Darling truly sets itself apart. Any given week might bring a drag show, a burlesque performance, circus acts, live music, a poetry reading, a book launch, bingo, stand-up comedy, a pop-up market, or an art exhibition. The music policy runs from house and alternative pop to DJ sets with real personality. Behind the bar, the cocktail menu is inventive, and the food offering includes the venue's signature "bikini darling" toasted sandwiches with characteristically queer-named variations.
The crowd is eclectic, open-minded, and genuinely mixed: queer people of all genders and identities, trans visitors, allies, locals, and travellers all coexist comfortably here. The atmosphere is inclusive and welcoming without being prescriptive, making it one of the few spaces in Barcelona where the community in its full breadth feels represented and celebrated.

I don’t ever review clubs but my dear traveling queers, go to this bar! Really good inclusive vibes with music that is not your typical gay bar music- not pop, not basic house, not circuit- it’s good club music that keeps the vibe energetic yet still sociable. The expensive cocktail drinks are large. No cover when we went

Great atmosphere, large and roomy inside. Went with a gay friend and had some lovely cocktails and had a fun time. Good dance tunes so he was very happy!!

Candy Darling is my favorite queer bar! As soon as you walk in, there’s an exhibition of independent art — and when you open the next door, it feels like stepping into a whole new world. The vibe is amazing, full of good energy and friendly faces.

It’s the perfect place to meet new people, with great music, reasonably priced drinks, and super welcoming service.

Last time I went, there was a lesbian event happening and it was incredible.
Can’t wait to come back! 🌈✨

If I had to put it in one word: amazing.

The cocktails are made with care, the atmosphere is amazing. There's a lot of straight people but if they keep the lights running, that's aún mejor.

I went on a that but I'm assuming Fridays will even be more fun. Anyway, here's a picture of me and my husband since we forgot to take any pictures lol

Candy Darling is a cozy and vibrant queer bar that stands out in Barcelona’s nightlife scene. The bar has a welcoming atmosphere, with great drinks and an exciting lineup of events. They also feature small art exhibits at the entrance, which adds a creative and unique touch to the experience. It’s a fantastic spot to enjoy a night out, whether you're there for the drinks, the events, or the art!
