Trans Pride Northern Ireland Marches Through Belfast City Centre for the First Time on 12 September

Trans Pride Northern Ireland holds its march and rally in Belfast on Saturday 12 September 2026. The organisers describe this edition as their first march through Belfast city centre, on the banner they invited people to help paint for it. Earlier editions gathered at Writer's Square and stayed there. Our event page carries the date and the assembly point. This is what the day and the week before it look like.

The route, street by street

The parade is registered with the Northern Ireland Parades Commission under reference PAR/110119, and that register is where the route is published in full. People gather at Writer's Square on Donegall Street from noon. The outward route sets off at 12.30 and runs along Royal Avenue, Donegall Place, Chichester Street, Victoria Street and Waring Street before coming back to Writer's Square. The registration runs to 16:00 and gives an expected 2,000 participants.

Waring Street is worth knowing about if you are joining late: the Belfast LGBT Centre sits on it, at numbers 23 to 31, so the march passes its door towards the end of the loop.

The rest of the programme

The march sits inside a festival that runs to 13 September and is assembled from events community groups put forward, so it changes shape from one year to the next. Still ahead: LGBTQ+ screenings at the Queen's Film Theatre through to 11 September, a trans cafe at Happy Out Coffee on 7 September at 18:00, banner painting at the Belfast Trans Resource Centre on 9 September from 17:00, a talk on surviving transphobia at the Belfast LGBT Centre the same evening from 18:00, and a placard-making session for LGBTQIA+ women there on 10 September from 18:30.

On the day itself a trans comedy night follows at the Ulster Sports Club at 19:00, and the afterparties are at Twin Spires and at The Maverick. Sunday 13 September closes the festival with an art market at the Oh Yeah Music Centre from 15:00 to 18:00 and a comedy show at the Black Box at 19:00.

Belfast around the route

The march forms up in the Cathedral Quarter, which is also where most of the city's queer nightlife is. Union Street Bar and Kremlin are the two long-standing ones, with Boombox and The Reporter nearby. Paperxclips, the queer bookshop at 162 North Street, hosted the festival's poetry night on 4 September and is a couple of streets from the square.

The legal position

The United Kingdom scores 43.9 out of 100 on ILGA-Europe's Rainbow Index. Our United Kingdom page sets out where the law stands, and the organisers publish their own account of what it means locally on their Being Transgender in Northern Ireland page, which is the more specific of the two for anyone travelling to Belfast.

What else is on

Nothing else we list in Northern Ireland falls in these weeks. The nearest Prides are across the Irish Sea and need a ferry: Millport Pride on Great Cumbrae the same day, about 143 km away, Dumfries Pride on 19 September and Cumbria Pride in Carlisle on 26 September.
