Munich's Oktoberfest runs from 19 September to 4 October 2026, and for the first time the Bräurosl tent will carry its queer Sunday over into the Monday. The tent has announced that the Rosa Sonntag, the day the international scene knows as Gay Sunday, is being extended into a Rosa Montag on 21 September.
The Bräurosl gives the reason on its own LGBTQIA+ page: demand has outgrown the single day, so from 2026 the Sunday runs on into the Monday under the rainbow flag. The city portal muenchen.de adds the detail that decides whether the trip is worth planning around: in 2026 the Monday offers bookable seats in the first tent shift, from 11:00 to 16:00, with an open gathering from 15:00.
That is the practical difference between the two days. Tables on Gay Sunday go to guests who return year after year, so the tent advises coming without a reservation and says most of the hall is held for walk-in visitors. Doors open at 9:00 on Sunday 20 September. For the Monday, the Bräurosl says a large contingent of tables can be reserved and that booking is already open.
A Monday gathering is not itself an invention. The Oktoberfest portal oktoberfest.de still describes the RoslMontag as an informal, free meet-up in the beer garden and the back of the tent, for people who could not get in on the Sunday. What is new in 2026 is that the tent runs it itself and sells seats for it.
Gay Sunday goes back to 1979, when the Münchner Löwen Club started reserving seats for its members. The tent tells the beginning as a misunderstanding: the landlord of the day read the club's name as a supporters' club of the local football side, and was taken aback by the guests in black leather. The club still holds the east balcony every Rosa Sonntag.
The queer dates at the Wiesn 2026
The city lists nine of them across the sixteen days:
- Saturday 19 September, from 10:30: Rosa Wiesn tapping in the Käfer beer garden
- Sunday 20 September, from 9:00: Rosa Sonntag, or Gay Sunday, in the Bräurosl
- Monday 21 September, 11:00 to 16:00, open meet from 15:00: Rosa Montag in the Bräurosl
- Wednesday 23 September, from 18:30: Subavaria in Kuffler's wine tent
- Sunday 27 September, from 14:00: queer skittles on the Oide Wiesn
- Sunday 27 September, from 16:45: Proud Wiesn in the Armbrustschützenzelt
- Monday 28 September, from 13:00: Prosecco-Wiesn in the Fischer-Vroni
- Tuesday 29 September, 17:30 to 23:00: Rosa Wiesn in the Wildstuben
- Sunday 4 October, from 13:00: the gay close of the Wiesn in the Schottenhamel
Most of these cost nothing beyond what you eat and drink. The Rosa Wiesn in the Wildstuben is the exception: it is a ticketed evening, sold in advance, and it returns after a first edition in 2025 that sold out.
Two of the dates carry the city's scene into the tents. Subavaria is run by the Sub, the gay communication and culture centre that turned 40 this August. The Prosecco-Wiesn is named after the bar Prosecco, whose owner began reserving tables at the Fischer-Vroni in the early 1990s and whose regulars kept the second Wiesn Monday going ever since.
