CSD Wuppertal Sets Off from Johannes-Rau-Platz at 14:00 on 12 September

Wuppertal walks its Christopher Street Day from one end of the city to the other on Saturday 12 September 2026. The demonstration forms up at 13:00 on Johannes-Rau-Platz in Barmen, sets off at 14:00 and finishes at Döppersberg in Elberfeld at around 17:00. That is several kilometres of city rather than a circuit of one square, and Döppersberg is the forecourt of Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof, so anyone arriving by train ends the day where they came in. Our event page has the date and the two ends of the route.

The motto, and why the organisers chose it

This year's motto is "Queeres Leben braucht Verbündete", queer life needs allies. On their demonstration page the organisers write that equal treatment, democracy, visibility and safety are not self-sustaining and have to be won again by a city that involves itself, and they name the attack on the CSD in Berlin on 25 July 2026 as the reminder of that. The same page states plainly that a CSD is not a party but a political demonstration for the rights and visibility of LGBTIAQ+ people.

Walking in it

Individuals need no registration and simply join. Groups, clubs, associations and companies that want to walk as a bloc or bring a decorated float register by email with the organisers beforehand. There is a quiet block for anyone who wants to demonstrate without chanting and amplified music, which is worth knowing about if noise is a reason you might otherwise stay at home.

The evening

The official party is at die börse on Wolkenburg, from 19:00. It opens slowly with information stands from the groups involved, a drag show follows at 20:00, and the DJs take over from 21:30 with pop through house to techno, played by artists from Wuppertal and the wider region. Entry is 15 euro in advance and 20 on the door, 10 and 15 reduced, and the organisers offer a solidarity ticket at 5 euro on request by email. The venue is wheelchair accessible and there is an awareness team on site. The party is for over-18s.

Everyone between 14 and 27 has a separate evening the same day: Queer Connect at Inside:Out on Hochstraße, from 16:00 to 22:00.

The three weeks before it

A cultural programme called Queer durchs Tal has been running since 23 August and fills the days up to the demonstration. Still to come: a Regenbogencafé at proviel on 7 September from 13:00, an inclusive dance evening at Inside:Out the same night at 19:00, a sexual health session there on 8 September at 17:00, a women's group session at the FrauenBeratung on 10 September from 15:30, and on 11 September both a garden CSD at the Kothen allotment association from 16:00 and a session making CSD merchandise at the children's and youth farm from 17:00.

The city and the country

We list one venue in Wuppertal, Schankwirtschaft Marlene, and the rest of the queer infrastructure here is the associations rather than the bars, which is part of why the cultural weeks matter as much as the day. Germany scores 69.54 out of 100 on ILGA-Europe's Rainbow Index, and our Germany page sets out the legal position.

The nearest Pride we list afterwards is CSD Offenbach on 19 September, about 170 km south.
