Munich's Hans-Sachs-Straßenfest Is on 15 August, and the Sub Turns 40

Munich's queer street festival takes place on Saturday 15 August 2026, from 14:00 to 22:00, in Hans-Sachs-Straße and a section of Ickstattstraße in the Glockenbachviertel. Entry is free and nothing has to be booked, though the organisers point out that the streets are narrow and access can be held back once they fill. The programme comes from the Sub, Munich's queer centre, which runs the festival and is marking its 40th year in 2026.

Everything happens on one open-air stage in the street: DJs through the afternoon and the evening, drag performances, and the Schwuhplattler, a gay group that dances the Bavarian Schuhplattler. The city of Munich carries the festival on its own events portal.

Around 20:00 comes the Rosenmoment. Red rose petals are tipped from a balcony over the street while Hildegard Knef's "Für mich soll's rote Rosen regnen" plays, and the dancing picks up again afterwards. Shortly before it, Lord Mayor Dominik Krause is due to speak. He was elected in March 2026 as Munich's first openly gay Lord Mayor.

For a visitor the useful part is where it happens. The festival occupies the streets the city's gay scene is built around. Drei Glöcklein is on Hans-Sachs-Straße itself. Ochsengarten, Bar Rendezvous and Fesch are on Müllerstraße one block away, and Hotel Deutsche Eiche is a few minutes further on Reichenbachstraße. The rest of what we list for the city sits on our Germany page.

The date matters for anyone planning around the state's Pride calendar. 15 August 2026 is also the day of the CSD in Bayreuth, in northern Bavaria, according to the CSD list kept by the Queeres Netzwerk Bayern.
