The MIX Copenhagen LGBTQIA+ Film Festival has set its 2026 dates. The festival's own site gives 30 October to 8 November 2026, ten days of screenings across the city.
It will be the 41st edition, not the 40th, despite anniversary wording that is still circulating from last year. The festival's programme archive numbers 1986 as the first year and 2024 as the 39th, which places the 40th anniversary in 2025.
The programme is not out. As of 28 August 2026 the site shows the dates and the festival's name, with no theme, no line-up and no ticket sale announced. MIX describes itself on its about page as "one of the oldest LGBTQIA+ film festivals in the world", run by volunteers and entirely non-profit. Its press material puts attendance above 10,000 for screenings and above 16,000 across all its events in a year.
Where it takes place
The festival's venues and accessibility page lists Cinemateket at Gothersgade 55 in the city centre and Empire Bio at Guldbergsgade 29F in Nørrebro, and it has also used Ungdommens Demokratihus on Slagtehusgade and the music venue Rust on Guldbergsgade. Which of them the 2026 edition uses will follow with the programme.
Both cinemas have step-free access, and the same page sets out what that means in practice. At Cinemateket the main door is reached by four steps, and the step-free entrance is in the side street near Landemærket 26, where staff open the door when the bell is rung. Empire Bio has an external ramp to the first floor but no wheelchair accessible toilet on that floor, and the two on the ground floor have door frames 85 cm wide. Wheelchair seating at both should be booked by telephone in advance. The page also notes building work at Cinemateket that may affect the route in.
What it means for a visit
The dates fall outside the summer season and well after Copenhagen Pride in August. Cinemateket sits in the middle of town, within reach of the bars we list in the centre, among them Centralhjørnet and Oscar Bar | Café. Empire Bio is in Nørrebro, a different part of the city again.
