The ninth Marcha de Viseu pelos Direitos LGBTQIA+ takes place on Saturday 10 October 2026. Plataforma Já Marchavas, the citizens' platform that held the city's first march in 2018, has now published the meeting point, the start time and this year's motto. The date is on our event page; this is what has been announced since.
Where and when
The march gathers from 15:00 in the Parque Aquilino Ribeiro, according to the platform's announcement. The route has not been published. Two interpreters of Portuguese Sign Language walk with the march, which the platform has arranged at earlier editions too.
The motto
This year's motto is "Das margens para as ruas: orgulho na luta!", from the margins to the streets, pride in the struggle. The platform sets the march against the growth of the far right and of hate speech aimed at LGBTQIA+ people, women and migrants. Its demands are local and national: inclusive education, health care without discrimination, and the right to live without fear. It describes Viseu as an inland city where discrimination and isolation are still part of life. The poster was drawn by the illustrator Joana de Sá.
Viseu for a visitor
Viseu is the largest city of the Beira Alta, between the Serra da Estrela and the Douro valley. The march is a public demonstration and open to anyone who turns up. We list no venues in the city.
Portugal opened marriage to same-sex couples in 2010, allowed joint adoption in 2016, and since 2018 adults can change their legal gender at a registry office without a medical diagnosis. Practices aimed at changing someone's orientation or gender identity have been a crime since 2024. The country scores 66.99 of 100 on ILGA-Europe's Rainbow Index; our Portugal page has the detail.
Other marches
Já Marchavas keeps a calendar of this year's LGBTQIA+ marches across Portugal. Two in the region went ahead on 26 September: Guimarães, 93 km north, and the third march in Castelo Branco, 99 km south.
