About

Finca Margarita is a restored Canarian farmhouse in Los Caserones, in the hills above Telde on the green north side of Gran Canaria. It stands on the old camino real, the route that once ran between Telde and Cruz de Tejeda, and looks down the Hoya Niebla valley towards the Atlantic. On a clear day Fuerteventura is visible from the terrace.

The guest wing is completely separate from the part of the house the owners live in and has its own entrance and terrace. It holds three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living and dining room with a fitted kitchen, dishwasher, sofa bed and satellite TV. There is WiFi. One of the bedrooms has a bathroom en suite and can also be taken on a bed and breakfast basis, which suits a couple of nights in the north rather than a long stay.

Breakfast and dinner are optional and are served in the large salon of the main building, which guests can also take over for a private celebration. The house dates its own history back some four hundred years. It stood empty for decades before it was bought and slowly made habitable again from 1989 on, and the present owners moved to the island in 2009 and spent four more years on it, stripping the plaster back to the natural stone and fitting old Canarian doors and windows collected around the island.

This is the quiet, agricultural side of Gran Canaria rather than the resort coast. The airport is about fifteen minutes away and so is Las Palmas, which puts the whole island within reach, and El Cortijo golf course and the Jardin Canario botanical garden are both close by.
