Axel Beach Maspalomas is the chain's Gran Canaria property, located in Playa del Inglés within short walking distance of the Yumbo Centrum, the open-air complex that forms the centre of the island's gay resort scene. The hotel has 92 apartments with balconies, a pool area with Balinese beds, a jacuzzi and a spa. It is a year-round operation in a year-round destination, and the team and atmosphere are frequently cited as among the most community-oriented in the Axel Hotels network.
The hotel's position between the beach, the Yumbo and the Maspalomas dunes makes it a practical base for the full range of what Gran Canaria offers LGBTQIA+ visitors, from beach and pool to circuit events and the winter leather and fetish calendar.

Very nice hotel, excellent team professional staff, breakfast is good but could be improved. Very kind restaurant staff.. Team of cleaners is very efficient. Very good massage by Hamza. Some issues with AC. Both saunas need some investment.. Very good location. Overall very pleasant stay, will come back again.
Axel Beach Maspalomas is always a great place to stay. While some of the facilities felt a little tired on earlier visits, it’s clear that real investment has been made over the past year — and if that momentum continues, this place will be absolutely top-notch before you can say “poolside cocktail”.
That said, the real stars of the show are the people. One of the things I genuinely look forward to each visit is seeing the same friendly faces who make you feel instantly welcome and remembered.
Javier is an absolute legend behind the bar — always warm, welcoming, and up for a good chat. He’s one of those people I make a point of finding before I leave just to say goodbye.
Luis greets guests with a constant smile and such positive energy — it never goes unnoticed.
Begoña is an incredible housekeeper, always making sure everything is just right. She even checks in if she spots you in the corridor to see whether you need anything topped up — service like that really stands out.
And Alex went above and beyond on my departure day when my flight was delayed, making sure I was comfortable and well looked after while I waited.
The whole cleaning team also deserves a big shout-out — every morning the pool area, loungers, floors, and hot tubs were meticulously cleaned. It’s incredibly reassuring and really adds to the overall experience.
All in all, a fantastic stay — and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. See you again soon.
We had very good stay here. Staff is really helpful and kind (especially Carmen, Rayco and Carmelo). Rooms are big and good equipped, bed comfortable. Everyday cleaning service very efficient. Breakfast was OK (could be a bit better). Both saunas need renovation. Very good pool area with many chairs. Good location (5-minute walk to Yumbo).
The staff and cleaners are what keep this hotel open. They work hard, are very kind, and it is as clean as the current state of the building will allow it to be.
Would I stay again? No…but I have no complaints, but I agree with many other reviewers that there are better quality resorts within the same proximity to yumbo etc.
Come on management, time to re-invest in the rooms, the sauna facilities and the quality of breakfast items. Good luck Axel!
The staff and cleaners of this hotel are the true hero’s. Always a kind hello, always clean. The Axel company could do with putting some money to update things room wise and facilities wise. But the atmosphere, queer safe space and pool side culture with amazing staff on hand is what makes this hotel a queer destination. Thank you Aytha for always a lovely welcome home after our mornings runs
