Axel Beach Maspalomas is the chain's Gran Canaria property, located in Playa del Inglés within short walking distance of the Yumbo Centrum, the open-air complex that forms the centre of the island's gay resort scene. The hotel has 92 apartments with balconies, a pool area with Balinese beds, a jacuzzi and a spa. It is a year-round operation in a year-round destination, and the team and atmosphere are frequently cited as among the most community-oriented in the Axel Hotels network.
The hotel's position between the beach, the Yumbo and the Maspalomas dunes makes it a practical base for the full range of what Gran Canaria offers LGBTQIA+ visitors, from beach and pool to circuit events and the winter leather and fetish calendar.

It was another wonderful stay. I've visited this hotel six times now and have always been satisfied. The reception staff always give a warm and friendly welcome. Thank you, Raiw and Carmen. The rooms are great and have everything you need. I'd love to come back again.
Stayed for 5 nights in Feb 2026. The location is great for restaurants, cafes and Yumbo centre, and easy access to a taxi rank. The pool and bar area are fantastic, clean and spacious, and sociable. I'd strongly recommend booking a massage with Hamza - he was great! All staff were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel rooms are a bit bland, dated and could do with some maintenance; and the steam room needs a refurb. It wouldn't put me off a return visit though.
Axel Beach Maspalomas is always a great place to stay. While some of the facilities felt a little tired on earlier visits, it’s clear that real investment has been made over the past year — and if that momentum continues, this place will be absolutely top-notch before you can say “poolside cocktail”.
That said, the real stars of the show are the people. One of the things I genuinely look forward to each visit is seeing the same friendly faces who make you feel instantly welcome and remembered.
Javier is an absolute legend behind the bar — always warm, welcoming, and up for a good chat. He’s one of those people I make a point of finding before I leave just to say goodbye.
Luis greets guests with a constant smile and such positive energy — it never goes unnoticed.
Begoña is an incredible housekeeper, always making sure everything is just right. She even checks in if she spots you in the corridor to see whether you need anything topped up — service like that really stands out.
And Alex went above and beyond on my departure day when my flight was delayed, making sure I was comfortable and well looked after while I waited.
The whole cleaning team also deserves a big shout-out — every morning the pool area, loungers, floors, and hot tubs were meticulously cleaned. It’s incredibly reassuring and really adds to the overall experience.
All in all, a fantastic stay — and I’m already looking forward to my next visit. See you again soon.
I chose Axel because it was adults only, not because it’s LGBT friendly. You know what, it was great. The staff were warm, welcoming and friendly. The rooms are spacious and were kept really clean (big thanks!). The other guests were courteous and great fun. Plenty to see and do in the area and Maspalomas is a good base to see the rest of Gran Canaria (Global busses fantastic). Thank you Axel for a great winter break.
Good stay overall. Very good location and friendly staff. The rooms are comfortable and the atmosphere is nice.
However, the hotel is mainly frequented by a gay clientele. This should be highlighted more clearly during booking, as you mostly notice it when arriving at the hotel with the posters and the general atmosphere. The prices are also a bit high.
