Bears Bar is the anchor of Madrid's bear scene, a few doors from Chueca metro on Calle Pelayo. The crowd is bears, cubs, chubs, older men and the people who like them, and it stays that way most of the week.
The room is small, dimly lit and heavy on wood, with rock and eighties and nineties pop on the speakers rather than club music. It works as a first stop before a night moves on elsewhere, and it gets crowded early.
The bar is tied to MadBear, the Madrid bear association that has been running bear parties in the city since 2001, so the calendar picks up noticeably around those weekends.
