About

La Luna sits in an old Canarian townhouse a few steps from the Plaza de España in Los Llanos de Aridane. The room you want is the courtyard at the back: yellow and green walls, plants on every ledge, small tables under an awning, and a blackboard menu chalked on the wall.

The kitchen does Spanish tapas and Canarian cooking, with couscous alongside, and there are dishes for vegetarians and for lactose-free and gluten-free diets. Local artists hang work in the rooms and the pictures change every few months.

Live music is a fixed part of the place. Small acoustic line-ups play in the courtyard, mostly jazz, bossa nova, swing and Latin American music. There is not much space, so a table has to be booked for a music night.

It is also where the queer scene on this side of the island gathers. The bar organised the gay and lesbian film festival at the municipal Teatro Chico in Santa Cruz de La Palma and has stayed part of the LGBT programme since. La Palma has no gay nightlife district, and this is the closest the island has to a gay bar.
