About

Legaynés is an LGBTI association in Leganés, on the southern edge of Madrid. It describes itself as a group for lesbians, gays, transsexuals, bisexuals, intersex people and hetero friendlies of the south of Madrid, and its name is a pun on the town's own.

The association works with the town hall on Orgullosamente, the town's Pride programme, and it sits on the municipal equality council. It gives an award of its own at the central Pride event, for work with older LGBTI people who lived through the years when homosexuality was still a criminal matter in Spain. Between those it runs the quedadas, numbered meet-ups that have been going for years, along with film screenings, exhibitions, workshops and public statements on trans rights, conversion therapy and LGBTIphobia.

There is no clubhouse and no shopfront. For a visitor this is a way into the local scene rather than somewhere to go for a drink, and the town's Pride is part of the wider Madrid regional programme.
