El Abanico de La Ogra is the gay bar of Cartagena, on Calle Asdrúbal in the Ensanche, a few streets north of the Roman theatre and the old town. It calls itself an LGBTIQ+ club and puts shows and a safe room ahead of everything else it does.
Drag is the point. There are live shows, themed parties and open-mic nights, with performers brought in from across the Región de Murcia and further afield. Between the shows the music is mixed rather than tied to one genre. Entry is free until the room is full.
The crowd is local and mixed, gay men, lesbians and trans people, and the bar says plainly that people are welcome however they come. It is one of the venues that carries part of the programme when Cartagena holds its Pride in June.
