Sauna Ego is the larger of Bilbao's two gay saunas, around a thousand square metres in the galleries under Plaza Zabalburu. The entrance is through the shopping arcade rather than off the street, which catches out first-time visitors.
On the wellness side there is a Finnish sauna, a Turkish steam bath, bithermic showers and a solarium. The cruising areas are extensive: a maze, a video room, a dark room with glory holes, slings and private cabins. A bar sits in the middle of it, and there is an internet station.
The clientele skews younger than at the other sauna and draws men from across the Basque Country rather than the city alone. The sauna marks its anniversary each year with live shows.
