Pub Key is a drag pub in Uribarri, north of the river and well away from the Bilbao la Vieja cluster. The house show is transformism, the Spanish drag tradition of lip-synced numbers strung together with comic patter, and it runs as a resident production rather than a guest booking.
The comedy is in Basque and Spanish and the numbers are eighties and nineties hits alongside current chart songs. That mix, and the humour, pull a strongly local audience.
The clientele is mixed, queer and straight together, and older than the club crowd across the water. This is a show bar first: people come for the performance and stay for the drinks.
