Bizitza is a cafe and bar on Dorre Kalea, one of the narrow streets of Bilbao's Casco Viejo, a short walk from the cathedral. It is among the better known gay bars in the city and has been for years.
There are two floors and a few tables out on the street. By day it works as a cafe, with coffee, a long list of infusions and cakes made on the premises; the cheesecake is the one regulars bring up. At night it moves to cocktails.
The walls carry rotating exhibitions by local artists, changed every few weeks. The crowd is mixed and tends to be over thirty, and the bar posts in Basque as much as in Spanish.
