Cafe Berio is a cafe and restaurant on Maassenstr. in Schoeneberg, just off Nollendorfplatz and around the corner from the Motzstr. bars. It opened in 1951 and is the oldest coffee house in the district.
The kitchen runs almost around the clock: breakfast, lunch, cake and coffee in the afternoon, dinner, ice cream and cocktails late. The terrace on Maassenstr. is large and is the main reason to come in summer. Since 2010 the rooms have doubled as a gallery, with changing shows.
It is a long-standing meeting point for gay and lesbian Berliners of all ages, and it works as a daytime anchor in a neighbourhood that is otherwise mostly a night-time one.
