About

Axel Hotel Berlin opened in 2009 in Schöneberg, the district that has been the centre of Berlin's LGBTQIA+ life since the early 20th century. The hotel occupies an emblematic building on Lietzenburger Straße, close to the bars, clubs and specialist shops that define the neighbourhood, including Tom's Bar and Hafen.

The hotel has 86 rooms and a comprehensive wellness centre with sauna, steam bath, hammam and jacuzzi. Berlin's broader LGBTQIA+ infrastructure, including Christopher Street Day and numerous club venues, makes it one of the most visited cities for gay travel in Europe, and the Axel Hotel provides a committed base within the historic core of that community.

We just spent four nights at Axel Hotel Berlin celebrating our fifth anniversary and once again, it reminded us why we keep coming back.

As loyal club members who have stayed at several Axel Hotels across Europe, we truly appreciate the consistency, atmosphere, and welcoming energy that define the brand. Berlin delivers all of that and more.

The team made us feel genuinely valued as returning guests, and the vibe was exactly what we love about Axel: stylish, relaxed, inclusive, and effortlessly cool.

Celebrating such a special date here made it even more memorable. We’ll definitely be back — as always.

Great stay at Hotel Axel Berlin! The staff were friendly, and my room was spotless, super comfortable and well-equipped. The hotel’s location is perfect, close to attractions and nightlife. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of fresh options. I loved the welcoming atmosphere! Highly recommended for anyone visiting Berlin.

I had an amazing stay at Axel Hotel Berlin. From the moment I arrived, the staff were friendly, professional, and made me feel welcome. The hotel has a modern design and a relaxed atmosphere that made my stay very comfortable.
My room was clean, cozy, and well-equipped with everything I needed. The location is perfect close to shops, restaurants, and the best spots in Berlin.
I really enjoyed my time here and would happily stay again. Highly recommended!

Super disappointed and a little upset with this hotel. Planning my Europe trip I was 100% excited to experience this hotel as a big part of my trip. I reached out to them to explain I was on a celebration holiday and I was very excited about the hotel. The responses were prompt and very kind AT FIRST.
As per their booking system I requested if I could rent a room with a bathtub. Even tho my trip was over 70 days in advance they told me they couldn’t guarantee me a bathtub because it would be subject to availability at the time of check in….. but crazy, however I just thought oh well and decided to pay a substantial amount more to stay in a suite, as all of those have bath tubs.
Within under 5 minutes of booking they emailed me a copy and pasted screenshot of a message informing me that their signature rooftop whirlpool hot tub would be entirely closed down during my stay…. Considering we had multiple back and forth via email about wanting a room with a bath tub and also just the simple fact that they had multiple opportunities to inform me of the closure of what they coin as one of their signature ammenities across their entire branding. This was just super sloppy and dodgy and left a bad taste in my mouth. But I still tried…. I emailed them very politely and asked if they had any possible discounts they were planning to offer for the loss of their signature amenity or even if they had any recommendations for something similar within the area I could still enjoy from the hotel. They never replied, despite replying to everything else like lightning speed when they knew they’d be getting my money.
I EVEN asked if the rooftop hot tub would be fixed at a later date the next month as I would be passing back through Berlin and they never replied. I have sent 4 emails asking for follow up, and nothing. Not a whisper.
It was just all very dodgy deceptive behaviour and with an already low score of just over 3/5 on google reviews they should probably be thankful people like myself are still willing to give them a chance. Countless tik tok and YouTube reviews speak of super negative experiences at this hotel BUT for ME, I wanted to give them a fair go.
And I did.
4 or more times to be exact. Yet they just didn’t care at all.
Such a shame, I was genuinely excited to try out this hotel.
But the staff ruined my hopes for that.
So yeh.
Not happening. All the best ✌️

My stay at Axel Hotel Berlin was extremely disappointing from beginning to end. I booked through TUI and was completely misinformed about what to expect. The hotel is very sleazy and outdated, nothing like the impression given when booking. The rooms look tired, worn, and in serious need of refurbishment. In my original room, the shower bath leaked all over the floor, making it unsafe and unusable, and the bathroom light was broken, flashing like a rave in the toilet. I had no choice but to ask for another room, which should never be necessary at this price point.

To make matters worse, a €150 deposit was taken on arrival, which was never advertised or mentioned by either TUI or the hotel beforehand. This felt misleading and unacceptable. The door signs were also distasteful and added to the overall uncomfortable and tacky atmosphere. Overall, the hotel failed on comfort, maintenance, and transparency. I would not return and would strongly advise others to think carefully before booking, especially through TUI.
