The Cockatoo Club is a cocktail and cabaret bar on Richmond Street, done in an art deco style with a gilded cockatoo crest over the door. It is a small room built around its stage.
Cabaret is the programme rather than a sideline. Drag queens, singers, comedy acts and open mic nights run through the week, along with a drag brunch called the Frockatoo, a Sing on Sunday session and Drag Race viewing parties. There are quieter fixtures too: a book club, LGBT film nights and a drink-and-draw.
The cocktails are the other half of it, with signature drinks and a proper range of non-alcoholic ones rather than an afterthought.
