The Common Press is a not-for-profit queer bookshop and cafe on Bethnal Green Road, just up from Boxpark Shoreditch. It opened as London's first explicitly intersectional queer bookshop and holds something over seven thousand titles.
The shelves lean towards trans-inclusive feminism, anti-colonialism, anti-fascism, climate justice and wellbeing alongside the fiction, poetry, theory and graphic novels. There is a bar and cafe in the same space, and the room takes about sixty people for events.
The programme is a large part of what the place is: book clubs, panels and launches, live music, workshops, family events, socials for Black and POC communities, and club nights. The ground floor is step-free throughout, both entrances are wide, there are accessible toilets, and dogs are welcome.
