Bar Wotever

Bar Wotever is the Royal Vauxhall Tavern's Tuesday variety night and it has been going for more than eighteen years. The bill mixes cabaret, drag, spoken word, live music, burlesque and performance art, and the running order is genuinely unpredictable from week to week.

It is the most trans and non binary centred night on the RVT calendar and one of the very few London stages where somebody can do a first ever set in front of an audience. That is the whole design: established performers and complete beginners on the same bill, in a room that turned up for exactly that. The crowd is described by the venue as informed and inquisitive, and it is.

The RVT is a Grade II listed Victorian pub on Kennington Lane that has been in continuous use as a queer venue since the 1860s. For a visitor who wants to see London queer performance rather than a club, this is the easiest door to walk through.
