The Black Cap reopened on 21 March 2026, eleven years after it was shut and boarded up. It is one of the oldest pubs in Camden and had been running drag since the 1960s, which is why its closure in 2015 became the defining fight of London's venue-loss decade: weekly vigils outside the building, a planning battle, and a campaign group that refused to go away for over a decade.
What reopened is not a museum piece. A two million pound refurbishment produced a ground-floor and first-floor bar, a dedicated performance space, a terrace, and B&B rooms upstairs, so you can drink, watch a show and stay the night at the same address.
Drag and cabaret remain the point of the place. Given how recently it reopened, the programme is still settling into shape.
