Comptons has traded as a gay pub on Old Compton Street since 1986 and calls itself the Grande Dame of the street. It is a pub before it is anything else: cask ale, sport on the screens, and a mixed, largely older weekday crowd that spills onto the pavement when the weather allows.
There are two floors. The ground floor bar is the busy one and takes the standing crowd. Upstairs is quieter and is used for private bookings.
Weekends bring DJs and themed nights and the room fills properly. It is 18 and over, with ID asked of anyone who looks under 21. Dogs are welcome.
