The Bookish Type is an independent queer bookshop on Great George Street, run by a trans woman, and describes itself as trans-owned. It stocks fiction, non-fiction, young adult titles, graphic novels and zines, with a strong focus on queer and trans authors, from classics like Audre Lorde and Leslie Feinberg to newer titles like Heartstopper.
The shop runs its own events programme, including talks, workshops and a Leeds queer history tour. It relocated to Great George Street in 2023 after starting out in the Merrion Centre.
