Bottom's Rest is a corner pub dating from the 1860s, tucked into the Hove backstreets just behind the Old Market theatre. It describes itself as queer-led, and it has form: the place drew goths, punks and queer drinkers through the 1980s and never stopped being that kind of room.
It is Brighton Gin's own pub, so the gin cocktails are the obvious thing, but there are real ales, kegs, ciders, wine and a decent non-alcoholic range as well. Two bars have been opened into one space. A log fire runs in winter and there is a lot of outdoor seating for the summer.
Sunday roasts come as meat or vegan and are all gluten free. There is a monthly quiz with a cash prize, local artwork on the walls, and the pub takes private hire. Empty gin bottles can be refilled here.
