Mary's is a cabaret bar on St Mary Street, on Cardiff's main night-out strip rather than over on Churchill Way with most of the rest of the scene. Drag is the point of it. There is a proper stage, a rota of Welsh and visiting performers, karaoke, bingo and DJs.
The main room takes 220 standing or 175 seated cabaret style, with booths and high tables around the floor. A separate area at the back, the Gold Lounge, seats about 30 and can be booked on its own. Drinks only, no kitchen. The door is 18+ on a challenge-25 policy.
Safety is something the bar writes down rather than leaves implied. There is Ask for Angela signage in the toilets, drink covers behind the bar for anyone who wants one, and staff in neon armbands you can go to with a problem. It calls itself a multi-award-winning venue, and the crowd is local LGBTQ+ regulars mixed with whoever is in the city that night.
