The Queens Arms is on George Street in Kemptown and has been doing the same thing for over forty years: cabaret, and a lot of it. The bar calls itself the legendary pink pub of Brighton, and it runs shows most nights of the week, sometimes twice on a Sunday.
It is old school in the best sense. Small, red-lit, camp, and built around the stage rather than the dance floor. Alongside the touring and resident drag acts there are karaoke nights, talent contests, and a run of in-house drag parody musicals written and staged by the performers themselves, which raise money for local causes.
It has won the city's Golden Handbag award for best cabaret bar. Booking is sensible for the bigger shows.
