The Kemptown Klub is a private members' bar rather than a pub, which sounds more exclusive than it is: membership is free, anyone over 25 can join, and they will sign you up at the door. The age limit is the real filter, and it is what gives the place its character.
It is small and quiet by Kemptown standards, more a lounge than a bar, and the point is being able to hear the person you came with. There is a second space downstairs called The Bothy.
The club runs themed nights, quizzes and an annual treasure hunt, and takes private functions without charging for the room. It is the sort of venue people join to make friends in the city rather than to go out on the pull.
