The Actors

Bars in Brighton, United Kingdom

About

The Actors occupies one of the oldest pub buildings in Brighton, opposite the Royal Pavilion, and was known for decades as the Marlborough. It reopened under the current name in 2021 with the same connection to the city's queer life and a broader remit alongside it, describing itself as a space for LGBTQAI+ communities and communities of the global majority.

The ground floor is the pub: craft beer, pizza, and a side bar that can be hired. Upstairs is a sixty-seat theatre with its own programme, which puts on fringe work, and there is a further room called the Light Room.

The programme is the reason to come. Open mic and poetry nights, drag, zine workshops, a lesbian discussion group, clothes swaps, free sexual health testing sessions, and reggae roasts on Sundays. It has won Best Venue at Brighton Fringe twice.
