Nautilus occupies the basement on St James's Street that spent years as Subline, Brighton's dedicated gay cruise club. The room has been turned into something else entirely: an undersea theme, old maps on the walls, deep red Chesterfields, low light and a serious cocktail list.

It is small and it is a talking bar rather than a dancing one. Live singers and open mic nights run regularly, and comedy turns up as well. The bar is 18 and over at all times.

The cocktails are what it is known for locally, and there is a full mocktail list alongside them, which is rarer on this street than it should be.
