Cheerz Bar & Club

Cheerz is Aberdeen's one dedicated gay venue and has been running since 1996. It sits on Exchange Street in the Merchant Quarter, a short walk from Union Street, and works as two things under one roof: a bar for most of the week, and Cheerz Club, a late dance floor at the weekend.

Drag is the house speciality, with resident performers on at weekends. The rest of the week runs on karaoke, and there is a quiz night with bar vouchers for the winning team. The DJs play pop, dance and R&B.

The crowd is mixed and the bar makes a point of that, describing itself as a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and allies alike. In a city with one gay bar that also means a fair number of straight groups on club nights. Admission is over-18s only.

The room can be hired for parties and private events. The same operator runs Cheerz Apartments, self-catering flats a street away on Hadden Street.
