Sundeck is a gay sauna and wellness club on the top floor of a building on the Länggassstrasse, a short walk from the centre of Bern. It opened around 1982 and is one of the oldest gay saunas in the city. The entrance is still discreet, at the back of the building.
The club runs over two floors. There is a Finnish dry sauna, a sanarium, a dark steam grotto, a cold plunge, a whirlpool, showers, a cloakroom, private cabins, a bar that serves food, a fumoir and a massage room. The roof terrace is what the house is proudest of. It is open all year, has loungers, seating and its own shower, and is screened from the surrounding buildings.
Sex is part of what happens here and the house says so plainly, but the larger share of the space is given over to sitting around and talking. Sundeck describes itself as the biggest offering for gay and bisexual men in Switzerland.
It is men only for most of the week. There is one mixed day open to all genders and sexualities, a day with reduced entry for guests under 30, and occasional bear days.
