Ume Pride is the Pride of Norrland's largest city, run by Queerförvaltningen, a non-profit association that has existed since 2011. The parade ends in Döbelns park, which becomes the Pride Park for the day.
The programme reaches well beyond the parade and stage: stand-up and a comedy club, a cabaret, a politicians' debate, a rainbow church service, drag story hour for children, a rainbow photo walk, a benefit concert, bingo, speed dating and an after-parade party. The university runs its own queer week alongside it.
The parade has its own rules, and they say something about the place: only fossil-free vehicles may take part, heavy vehicles need clearance, banners are capped at three metres so as not to block the road, and anyone visibly under the influence is turned away at the park.
