Side Track is a basement bar on Södermalm, a few minutes from Mariatorget station. It has been running since 1998 and calls itself the oldest gay bar in Stockholm. The bar also says there was a gay venue in the same rooms before it took over, and that some people hold it to be the oldest in Sweden.
The room is small and fills up quickly. Much of the crowd is regulars, the DJ plays pop and older hits, and the kitchen does Swedish home cooking: meatballs with mashed potato and lingonberries, pork schnitzel, cured salmon with dill potatoes, toast Skagen. For central Stockholm the food is cheap. Tables are booked by phone rather than online.
