The Lesbian Library and Archive occupies the first floor of the ŠKUC-LL rooms at Metelkova and holds the most complete collection of literature on homosexuality in Slovenia. It was founded in 2001 for a plain reason, which the library still states itself: at the time there were no lesbian and gay books in the country at all.
The collection runs to roughly 2,500 items, of which around 1,600 are books, alongside periodicals, comics, articles, video and a documentary and media archive. It covers theory, prose, poetry, gender and sexuality, human rights and the history of the movement here. The catalogues are split by genre and can be browsed online before you visit.
Membership is free and lending is open to anyone. It is staffed by the lesbian section of ŠKUC on set afternoons only, and closed over the summer, so write ahead if you are passing through.
