Monokel is a lesbian club at Metelkova, in the same building as Klub Tiffany. The two share a history: an LGBT club opened here in 1993 and split into a lesbian room and a gay one five years later. Monokel is still run by the lesbian section of the student cultural association ŠKUC.
The music is the harder end of the spectrum, mostly techno, with resident and guest DJs. Around the club nights the room is used for talks, debates, exhibitions and literary evenings, so it works as a meeting place as much as a dancefloor.
Lesbians run it and the welcome is explicitly wider: queer, bi and pan people, gay men, trans and non-binary people. The club states that homophobia, sexism, nationalism, racism and ageism are not tolerated, and asks visitors to report incidents to the crew on the spot or in writing afterwards.
The space is on the ground floor and is accessible to wheelchair users, toilets included. Assistance dogs are welcome.
