Pritličje

Bars in Ljubljana, Slovenia

About

Pritličje occupies the ground floor of the building beside the town hall, in the middle of the old town. The name means ground floor, and the house calls itself the foundation for the storeys above and the roof over the underground.

It opened in 2014 and took on the role of Café Open, the city's first openly gay and lesbian friendly bar, which had closed the year before. By day it is a café and bar with food. In the evening it turns into a venue: concerts, DJ sets, readings, debates, film nights, exhibitions on the walls and a comics corner.

The programme leans political and the house is openly LGBT endorsing, which is what makes it a meeting point rather than a place that merely tolerates you. The crowd is mixed rather than exclusively queer, and it is busy. The tables out on the square fill up first.
