Checkpoint ARAS Iași is a testing centre on Strada Păcurari built for men who have sex with men and for trans people, and it is the only one of its kind in the northeast of Romania.
Rapid testing covers HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, with the result given on the spot. Everything is free, anonymous and confidential, and it works by appointment made over the phone. The team also hands out condoms and lubricant, advises on PrEP, supports people who have just been diagnosed, and refers on to doctors who have been checked as LGBTQI+ friendly.
It is run by ARAS, the Romanian anti-AIDS association, and is one of four Checkpoint centres in the country alongside Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara. It is a standing partner of Iași Pride.
