Acaju is a café and bar on Strada Anastasie Fătu and, in practice, the room where the queer crowd in Iași ends up. It has hosted the closing party of Iași Pride and a drag screening brunch put on with the city's LGBTQ+ association, and it is a named partner of the festival.
The kitchen is vegetarian, the drinks run from coffee through cocktails, and dogs are welcome. In the daytime it works as somewhere to sit with a laptop. Later it turns into a room for concerts, DJ sets, jam sessions, poetry readings, stand-up and parties.
It began in a small house on Strada Sfântul Sava and later moved into the larger space it occupies now. It does not call itself a gay bar and it is not one. In a city that has neither a gay bar nor a gay club, it is the closest thing on offer.
