Upon Angels is an adults-only hotel on Rua dos Anjos, in Arroios, a couple of Metro stops north of the Baixa and within walking distance of Intendente and Anjos. It has 46 studios across six types, from a Basic up to a Romantic and a POP.
The studios are done in strong colour: a bed screened off by a floor-to-ceiling chain curtain, a neon heart on the wall, a red sofa and a small kitchen tucked behind the screen. The house calls its own line "make the bond" and works the room design around it.
Angels Bar downstairs is the other half of the place, red curtains and low light, a cocktail list, and breakfast in the morning. The bar programme runs to burlesque, drag bingo and stand-up. There is also a pool with a jacuzzi.
