Purex is a queer bar and club on Rua das Salgadeiras in Bairro Alto. It has been a fixture of the city's alternative queer scene for years and pulls a crowd of gay men, lesbians and non-binary locals.
The decor is retro kitsch and the room is small. Earlier in the week it works as a bar with cheap cocktails, and at weekends the back becomes a dance floor.
It is one of the few venues in Lisbon that is genuinely mixed rather than aimed mainly at gay men, which is why it turns up on every list of queer rather than strictly gay nightlife in the city.
