Werk Room

About

Werk Room is an LGBTI+ community space on Rua do Compromisso in central Faro. It is not a bar. The programme runs to exhibitions, workshops, talks, a book club and film nights, and the space is used by several Algarve queer groups.

Inside is the Guilherme Goncalves Gallery, which shows work by local artists and puts the emphasis on queer ones. Alongside the cultural side, Werk Room runs practical support: mental health and gender identity counselling, sexual health advice and STI screening, organised with partner organisations in the region.

It is one of the organisations behind the Algarve LGBTQI+ Pride march, which returns to Faro each summer. For a visitor it is the place to find out what the local scene is actually doing, which the bars will not tell you.
