Surowiec is the queer bar and club in the Ruska 46 courtyard, the run-down block off Ruska street that Wrocław's alternative venues have taken over. It calls itself a safe space for everyone and is the anchor of the city's queer nightlife, the place local Pride programming runs through.
The room doubles as a gallery: work by local artists hangs on the walls and is for sale. Drinks are the other half of it, with cocktails on tap, house-made syrups and infusions, wine and craft beer. The programme mixes drag shows, voguing performances, a queer open mic, quiz and bingo evenings, karaoke and straight club nights with DJs.
It draws a young, mixed crowd rather than a men-only one, and it is busy. Google reviews put it above four stars across five hundred votes, which for a bar this size says something about how well it is run.
