About

Pieron is a drink bar on Warszawska in the middle of Katowice. It defines itself as hetero friendly, which is the usual phrase turned round: the bar is queer, and straight guests are welcome in it. The people who run it have put that plainly, saying they want a girl with a guy and a guy with a guy to feel equally comfortable.

The name is Silesian. A pieron is a lightning strike, and also a troublemaker, and the bar plays on both meanings.

It is run as a pub rather than a cocktail bar or a night club, with a short list of house cocktails and small plates, among them a klapsznita with pastrami. Klapsznita is the Silesian word for a sandwich. Drag and burlesque performances are part of the programme, alongside DJ nights and karaoke, and the bar takes bookings for private events and does catering. Inside it is one long room with a vaulted ceiling, brick walls and coloured light.
