Pub Red Light

Red Light is the pub people name first when someone asks where queer Gdansk goes. It hosts the Before party for the Trójmiejski Marsz Równości, the Tricity Equality March, and describes itself as a place where everyone finds a space they are comfortable in. It is not a gay bar in the sense of a venue only queer people use. It is a pub on Piwna where nobody looks twice, which in Poland is the part that counts.

The room is dark and deliberately overdone. Red walls, velvet sofas, deep armchairs, old lampshades and second-hand furniture, with a garden at the back. The pub calls itself a PLUR society, after the rave-scene phrase peace, love, unity, respect.

Behind the bar is a long cocktail list, several of them their own. Pizza and burgers come out of the kitchen, and there are vegetarian options. The music sits well outside mainstream club fare.

One practical thing: the entrance is not on Piwna but around the corner on ul. Kaletnicza.
