De Zaanse Regenboog

Community in Zaandam, Netherlands

About

De Zaanse Regenboog is a volunteer foundation for LGBTQ+ people in the Zaan region, just north of Amsterdam. It has no premises of its own. Its programme runs in cafes, the theatre, the film theatre and community spaces across Zaandam, Wormerveer and the other Zaan towns.

The biggest thing it organises is ZaanPride in June, ending with the Zaanse Regenboogparade through the centre of Zaandam and a party afterwards. Through the rest of the year there is a monthly Zaanse Regenboogcafe for people over 50, youth parties, a walking group for queer women, film nights, karaoke and a bike tour through the local queer history.

It also does quieter work: consultation hours for queer residents of the asylum centres in Zaandam, a faith group, school alliances, a political working group and a yearly Zaanse Regenboogprijs. The programme page on its website is the place to find out what is on and where.
