Savannah Bay is a bookshop on the Telingstraat, a short walk from the Neude, specialising in literature and poetry alongside gender studies, LGBTQIA+ and postcolonial writing. It descends from De Heksenkelder, the first feminist bookshop in the Netherlands, which opened in a damp canal cellar on the Oudegracht in 1975 and moved to this address in 1984 under the current name.
It is also a meeting place. Volunteers run reading groups and discussion evenings in the shop, Lazy Queer Sunday among them, and the room is let out for workshops and writing courses. Savannah Bay houses Pink Point, the LGBTQ+ information point for Utrecht and the surrounding region.
Stock is in Dutch and English. There is a webshop and an order form for anything not on the shelves.
